Thales aims to help businesses prepare for new 2018 cyber regulations

Paris, France

From 25 May 2018, any company wishing to do business in Europe must comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Companies now have less than a year to audit their data management policies and make the changes to their procedures required by the European Union.

The recent WannaCry ransomware attack, which infected computers around the world, is a stark reminder that cyber attacks are becoming increasingly common and that organisations need to step up their defences. Thales offers a comprehensive range of cyber security solutions and is on hand to help customers adapt to this new regulatory requirement.

As a European leader in cyber security and a global leader in data security, Thales is fully mobilised to audit both their security systems and the compliance of the data security measures they have in place, as well as providing 24/7 supervision of information systems, cyber attack detection and data encryption solutions.

Article 32 of the GDPR requires “technical and organisational controls that ensure a level of security appropriate to the risk, including […] the pseudonymisation and encryption of personal data”. Companies failing to take the proper steps could be liable to huge fines — up to €20 million or 4% of annual worldwide revenue. Yet a recent study by Thales shows that only 64% of companies see data encryption as one of the priority measures to ensure compliance with the GDPR. However, solutions do exist: Thales protects data for dozens of major companies around the world.

The GDPR imposes a number of obligations and formalises the concept of accountability, whereby companies are required to prove that they have effective data security measures in place. Thales has partnered with law firms around Europe to offer a comprehensive solution that guarantees legal and technical compliance with the new regulation.

Thales has launched "Is your business fit for GDPR?" and is helping companies implement a comprehensive security strategy to meet the requirements of the new regulations.
