Secure Computing Corporation has just announced the company's CyberGuard Firewall/VPN v6.2.1, received the Common Criteria Certification (CC) EAL4+ using the US Department of Defense (DoD) Application-level Firewall Protection Profile for Medium Robustness Environments.
To achieve this higher level of Protection Profile compliance, CyberGuard TSP was subjected to and passed months of rigorous government-defined independent vulnerability analysis and penetration testing required by the US Common Criteria Scheme. To date, CyberGuard TSP and the Sidewinder G2® Security Appliance are the only firewalls on the market to complete this testing as application-level firewalls.
"IDC believes that the key to success in the threat management security appliance market will be product differentiation through improved performance and features," said Charles Kolodgy, research director, Security Products at IDC. "With the proliferation of so many appliances, customer confusion can occur. For vendors to win in such a competitive environment, they need to stand out in the marketplace. This can be done in a number of ways -- price, performance, the mix of security functions incorporated in the device, improved manageability, security knowledge services, or security certification."
"This certification is an enormous achievement," said Dennis Nadler, chief technology officer at Merlin International, a Secure Computing Federal channel partner. "With TSP and Sidewinder G2 in Secure's channel, it gives us an edge in a crowded market that has been growing rapidly. At the end of the day, having these rigorous certifications can seal the deal."
"Secure Computing is committed to being the security leader by providing our customers with robust products with security architected in that meet the most rigorous certification requirements," said Mike Gallagher, senior vice president of product development for Secure Computing. "TSP and Sidewinder G2 are the only security solutions in the marketplace that have completed this stringent EAL4+ certification process. This TSP certification highlights the depth and quality of our full-featured firewall appliance lineup and the industry leading security built into them."
