NSI Chief Executive moves on

The NSI has announced that Tom Mullarkey, Chief Executive since 2002, has moved at the end of May to the RoSPA, The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, as Chief Executive.

Tom Mullarkey, formerly an Army Officer, has worked in a range of commercial and not-for-profit posts in the last 10 years, including at Warburg's merchant bank and the Manchester Commonwealth Games. At NSI, he has been responsible for a successful strategic re-positioning of NSI as an end-user champion, serving the public and corporate customers through the quality and diligence of its independent inspection schemes. Specific projects have included a major re-branding exercise, the development of NSI as the leading inspection body in the fire detection and alarm systems sector, and a much higher visibility of NSI to all audiences. More widely, he has focussed on delivering greater levels of confidence in NSI to insurance industry stakeholders and lobbying Government on security industry regulation, towards a voluntary approach.
Sir Michael Bett, Chairman of NSI commented: 'In the last four years, Tom has brought a wealth of new ideas into NSI and delivered a consistent message of high standards to the public and key stakeholders such as the Police and insurers. Most particularly, his leadership of the NSI team and his positioning of NSI as an organisation of huge potential, have been greatly effective, and the security industry is much the better for his contribution.'
Tom Mullarkey commented: 'This has been an immensely challenging four years, in which I have enjoyed building on NSI's many strengths. It is a sound organisation, staffed by committed and dedicated experts, and providing, largely unseen, the bedrock on which the quality end of the industry is built. It has been very rewarding to help to provide a stronger platform upon which NSI can operate into the future. The challenges at RoSPA are no less exciting and I am greatly looking forward to working with the Trustees and staff of this highly respected national organisation.'
