Double strength SSAIB in Birmingham

Birmingham, UK

The SSAIB, the UK's leading certification body for organisations, has a double presence at this year's Ifsec and Firex International shows in Birmingham.
The organisation is exhibiting on separate stands within both shows from 13-16 May at the NEC. A full complement of SSAIB staff will be on hand to discuss a range of topics.

The number of SSAIB-registered firms is now at a record 1500 – including companies providing electronic security, intruder alarms, manned protection and fire detection systems, as well as new services such as telecare systems for the social alarms sector.

Representatives including Lynn Watts-Plumpkin, SSAIB’s Manned Services Scheme Manager, will be available on the organisation’s Ifsec stand to answer queries about significant issues such as the impact of the SIA’s Business Regulation regime, being introduced later this year.

Meanwhile, Technical Manager, Dave Profit, Chief Executive, Geoff Tate and other staff will be present to describe the benefits of SSAIB’s important new Temporary Alarm Systems scheme. This scheme is already being specified by leading insurers and assists in safeguarding construction areas, vacant premises and other buildings at risk from vandalism, arson, squatters, criminal damage and other harmful attacks.

Over on the SSAIB’s Firex stand, Marketing Manager Andrew Brown will be able to outline the advantages of its BAFE SP 205 UKAS-accredited scheme, dealing with the certification of companies or individuals carrying out a fire risk assessment of any premises. “Gaining SP205 certification through the SSAIB is a valuable way for fire risk assessement providers to attract end user customers,” Andrew notes. “The scheme enables anyone who’s required by law to carry out a fire risk assessment, and who employs a specialist third party company to provide this, to demonstrate that they’ve taken the necessary reasonable steps to comply with their legal obligations and requirements under fire safety legislation.”

The SSAIB is also currently expanding its website services, with fresh features designed to improve functionality for visitors and importantly reduce its registered firms’ costs. An online application system is intended to make it easier for firms to apply for registration and enhance SSAIB’s applications processing. A new electronic auditing package has also been developed to reduce the volume of paperwork and SSAIB auditors will be equipped with a hand-held device allowing checklists and audit reports to be completed more quickly and easily.
