Derwent REG cameras used at major horse racing festival

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire (UK)

Derwent's REG number plate capture cameras have been used to improve security at the Cheltenham Gold Cup, one of the British horse racing world's top annual festivals.

The number plates of more than 15,000 vehicles entering and leaving during the two-day event were captured by Derwent's REG dual cameras, installed by Special events communications.

"Our engineers were able to set the system up very quickly because the cameras are literally plug and play," explains Don Wetherell of Special events communications "We transmitted the captured number plate data back to a police control unit using NVT twisted-pair cabling. We had separate locations monitored at distances of up to 600 metres from the control point"

Special events communications is a provider of rapid-deployment CCTV and ANPR solutions for high profile public events, and the company is a long-standing advocate of Derwent equipment.

"There is no margin for error at these major events because the timing is always critical," explains Don Wetherell "The equipment we use must always work first time and be totally reliable"

Derwent's REG dual cameras provide a complete, fully integrated, reliable number plate capture solution. Featuring twin cameras and matched IR illumination, REG dual's dedicated number plate capture camera gets the plate regardless of the prevailing lighting and weather conditions; a high resolution colour camera provides overview images of the surrounding area including the vehicle shape, make and colour.
