Andrew Rosenthal to speak at Transec

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

The World's leading technologists and thinkers engage in informed debate on pressing issues within the transport arena, and perimeter security is top of the agenda June 3-4 at RAI in Amsterdam.

Andrew Rosenthal commercial director of Navtech Radar, the world leading developer and manufacturer of millimetre wave (MMW) radar sensor solutions for outdoor Security and Surveillance applications, will be speaking at the Technology Workshop on Surveillance and Intrusion at TranSec World Expo in Amsterdam next month. The topic of the presentation is Radar Activated Surveillance: The Use of Millimeter Wave Radar Automatically Controlling CCTV for Perimeter & Wide Area Outdoor Security.

"The background to this presentation can be traced directly to an incident that happened at 3.15 a.m. on 8 December 2008 where more than 50 environmental campaigners breached Stansted Airport's perimeter fence. Carrying their own fortified fencing, they walked onto the runway and set up camp until the authorities arrived to remove them, effectively bringing the airport to a standstill. This incident unfortunately highlights the weakness in perimeter protection not only at international airports but also at the majority of the UK's critical national infrastructure sites. During the presentation at TranSec, we will aim to provide insights into how security radar works and why this technology solution offers a unique capability to combat the threat from attempted perimeter incursion. We will give examples of suitable applications for radar technology showing the radar controlling: day/night PTZ cameras, thermal cameras, including a video of live incident footage".

Tom Reeve, editorial director at CCTV Media will be chairing the workshop. He comments, "Radar is still considered to be "emerging technology" for outdoor security & surveillance purposes. One of the issues could be that many systems integrators and specifiers may be under the impression that successful outdoor intruder detection is far more complex to achieve than indoor detection. This could be down to the fact that outdoor intrusion sensors must cope with variable weather conditions and other environmental factors whilst still minimizing false alarms. The Navtech technology is intriguing and interesting because, a radar sensor is largely unaffected by rain, fog, light and other environmental conditions that alternative solutions may struggle to cope with".

A new report from IMS Research on the global market for intruder alarms*) predicts strong growth for the outdoor sensor market. According to the report IMS expects a growth rate at CAGR of 8.2%, and the total market for outdoor intrusion sensors is forecast to be worth USD 345 million by 2013. This workshop is therefore well timed in view of the market trends as well as the real life incidents we have witnessed.

The Surveillance and Intrusion Detection Technology Workshop takes place on June 4th from 13:45 to 16:25 at RAI in Amsterdam. For more information about TranSec World Expo please visit http://www.transec.com/
