Thailand's first straddle beam monorail deploys Tagmaster RFID

Stockholm, Sweden and Bangkok, Thailand

Tagmaster has supplied signal system equipment for the newly built 30.4 kilometre long Yellow Line monorail in Bangkok from Lat Phrao to Samrong, serving a total of 23 stations. The order is worth just over SEK 5.5 million.

Within the solution area Rail Solutions, Tagmaster mainly works in signaling and automated train control systems for primarily subways and trams.

Tagmaster RFID technology is widely used in CBTC (Communication Based Train Control) systems in subways, APM and Monorail installations worldwide to provide reliable positioning. The system allows train operators to make optimal use of the train systems while maintaining safety as the system calculates the minimum safety distance required between train sets and adjusts the speed to maintain this distance.

Traffic on the Yellow Line, which is Thailand's first straddle beam monorail line where the train hangs over the monorail itself, is driverless and operated with four-car trainsets with a maximum speed of 80 kilometres per hour. Each train can carry 568 passengers, giving the capacity to carry up to 17,000 passengers per hour.

"With such high intensity on the tracks, safety has the highest priority. It is therefore a feather in our cap that the Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTSC) has chosen our solution," says Jonas Svensson, CEO, Tagmaster.

The delivery to the Yellow Line includes a total of approximately 100 HD Readers and 1,500 Railtags used in GOA4 - a fully automated system for driverless operation of the trains called Innovia Monorail 300.

Tagmaster has previously supplied signaling systems to other public transport systems in Bangkok such as the Purple Line (metro), Gold Line (feeder line on rubber wheels) and also supplies to the Pink Line which is a monorail line under construction and has offered for the upcoming Orange line (monorail).
