He will take over the day-to-day running of the not-for-profit organisation that works with retail members and law enforcement agencies to build prosecution evidence packs against prolific and persistent local and national offenders with immediate effect.
Jason, who was at the vanguard of founding the NBCS a decade ago and was also a long-term board member, stepped away from the organisation in 2023 to allay concerns over other commercial interests in the industry that may give rise to any perceived conflict of interest.
He has spent the last 18 months pursuing interests outside of the security industry including business mentoring and life coaching based upon his years of business experience.
But the seasoned entrepreneur who has a long career heading up a number of successful security and technology businesses, has never lost his “passion and desire” to re-establish his connection with the NBCS.
“The NBCS is something I have always passionate about since I helped develop it over 10 years ago and I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to help shape its future direction,” said Jason. With the crime impacting the retail industry at an existential level, I believe true collaboration is the only way forward.
I’m excited and energised by the challenge and the opportunity of working with the NBCS team and all its stakeholders from associate members to its customers, to other industry associations and bodies, and of course, the law enforcement community.
Collaboration is probably at the strongest point it can be now a result of a new understanding of the impact of crime at a business c-suite level and from a national policing perspective. This has been assisted by political engagement and a stronger risk to resource response from the security industry itself. But I think true collaboration can go further."
“I want the NBCS to become what it was originally set up to be: a one stop and the conduit of intelligence sharing. I want it to be a forefront of this new era with fresh thinking, so it is best positioned to pull in data from the wider retail security community and the organisations such as BRCPs and BIDs that work with them. All of granular data can be seamlessly fed into policing initiatives at a National level such as OPAL to affect the meaningful prosecutions or at a local level to Neighbourhood policing teams that make a difference to the retail crime deterrence and disruption" he continued.
Jason added a note of appreciation to the work of the board: “I’d personally like to thank the NBCS board for its support and particularly Tim Edwards who will be retiring from his role as chairman. Tim has dedicated so many years and given so much of his time, energy, knowledge and leadership to both the organisation strategically and in recent times day to day stewardship."
The NBCS board said: “We too would like to thank Tim for all he has done and wish him well for the future. He leaves us in a very strong position and very capable hands as we are very pleased to announce that Jason Trigg will be returning to lead the organisation going forward."
