As one of the busiest seaports in North America, the Port of Los Angeles relies on advanced security and operations technology to coordinate multiple agencies, including law enforcement, federal authorities, and emergency response teams. To support both day-to-day operations and large-scale events like Fleet Week, Convergint, the Port’s trusted systems integrator and Vuwall partner, were tasked with modernising video wall operations across several control rooms with a solution designed for reliable, mission-critical performance.

The Port’s previous systems no longer met requirements and lacked the flexibility to quickly switch layouts during critical incidents. Operators often faced complex reconfigurations at the worst possible moments, creating unnecessary delays and operational friction. The Port needed a dependable, easy-to-use video wall management system that could simplify workflows, minimize downtime, and enable seamless transitions between sources, layouts, and response scenarios.

Convergint was tasked with retrofitting three rooms that serve the Port Police, Coast Guard, FBI, Customs and Border Protection, and other agencies that rely on real-time video, analytics alerts, drone operations, and aircraft tracking.

To support day-to-day security operations, Convergint selected Vuwall’s TRX and PAK solutions to work seamlessly with some of the Port’s existing technologies, an important consideration for the modernisation. These technologies included Infiled LED video walls in the Roll Call Room and the Threat Detection Center; Milestone Xprotect IP-based surveillance cameras to observe traffic and movement across the facilities. The Port also uses services like a Drone First Responder (DFR) system, air traffic tracking systems, and access control systems.

Vuwall TRX centralised management

TRX integrates directly with the Port’s existing Milestone VMS through a native plug-in: it allows operators to drag and drop camera feeds onto the video wall and instantly recall predefined layouts. The intuitive interface simplifies daily monitoring while enables rapid transitions during high-pressure situations, helping teams respond faster and with greater confidence.

PAK supports the Port’s distributed video wall design, enabling consistent workflows across multiple spaces and future expansion as operational requirements evolve. Built on a modular architecture, it provides the flexibility to scale its environment without redesigning its infrastructure, while maintaining a standardized platform that is easier to manage and support over time.

Vuwall Controlvu PoE touch panel

Controlvu gives operators the freedom to securely change layouts and control devices with a simple touch. The web-based control panel designer enables users to quickly and easily create fully customised panels without the need for any programming. Conceived to complement Vuwall’s TRX platform, the touch panel empowers operators with the ability to quickly adapt to ongoing events for optimal decision-making speed.

Reduced complexity and improved reliability

Since the deployment, the Port has improved reliability and ease of use across daily operations. In the Threat Detection Center, operators can shift from monitoring analytics alerts to displaying a full mission-critical operational view at the touch of a button. Preset-based workflows reduce complexity, standardise common responses, and ensure the right information is displayed at the right time to support real-time situational awareness. As a result, teams spend less time managing technology and more time assessing events, coordinating across agencies, and making faster, more informed decisions with more confidence, even in high-pressure situations.

"Being able to quickly bring the most critical information onto the video wall helps operators respond more effectively as situations evolve. That’s exactly what Vuwall’s technology enables," said Josh Lloyd, Program Manager at Convergint

Groundwork for next phase

For Convergint, Vuwall’s flexibility and scalability have laid the groundwork for the next phases of the project. The new system is ready to expand into the Port’s Department Operations Center, as well as additional conference rooms and command centres. The standardised architecture has reduced service calls, simplified ongoing management, and improved overall user satisfaction. Together, these benefits deliver a strong return on investment and provide a scalable foundation for the Port’s future growth.
