Dahua initiative funds less fortunate children

Hangzhou, China

As part of its commitment to make a positive impact in the communities where it operates, Dahua Technology's "Lighting the Future" Corporate Social  Responsibility (CSR) programme extends its donation initiative to the Xichang Buttonwood Primary School in Sichuan Province, China.

The Xichang Buttonwood Primary School is located in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province, where 60-70% of children come from poor families with no stable income. Every morning, the children set out before daybreak. It takes two hours from their homes to reach the school along bumpy mountain roads; the road conditions are very poor and rocky and can easily wear out their shoes. As there is no money to buy or fix their clothes and shoes, many of the children there have to wear tattered shoes and clothes to school.  Limited lighting along the road increases the risk for them on the way to school and back home. Despite these challenges, the children continue in their quest for knowledge and learning.

In order to help the children complete their studies, Dahua's "Lighting the Future" CSR programme, launched in 2015, organised a fund-raising event amongst the Dahua staff. Through this programme, to date, Xichang Buttonwood Primary School has received a donation of 46,520 RMB plus supplies; every student at the school receives a pair of sports shoes and a flashlight for their hike to school. Dahua has also a long-term programme to fund outstanding students; accordingly, there are now 8 students that have benefited from this financial support. Dahua has initiated this action to light up the path for the children for now and for the future.

Since the "Lighting the Future" CSR programme began, Dahua has funded, a total of 666 students in rural areas to date. The project has over 100 volunteers from inside Dahua.  Mr. Yang Bin, Deputy General Manager of the Software R&D Center, said "Children are the future of China. We hope this project will contribute and help children in poor areas to continue their academic pursuits and make their dreams come true."
