Web TV: Smart buildings and smart homes

Stockholm, Sweden

In this Detektor TV video clip, industry experts from Vanderbilt, UTC, HID, Suprema, Hanwha Techwin, Vivotek, Brivo and Stid share their views on smart buildings and smart homes.

Access control, identity management and video surveillance play a big role in smart buildings today. David Sullivan, President of Vanderbilt International, stresses that access control can contribute to smart buildings in many ways. He says: “You can manage identity and you can start to determine when somebody is behaving differently and be able to utilise that data within your smart building application.”

John Szczygiel, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Brivo, also believes access control has a big role in smart buildings. He says: “When something happens in a building, and there needs to be an evacuation, access control obviously plays a role.”

New entrants

The smart home market is expected to double from 2018 to 2024 with a CAGR of 12 per cent.

Aurélie Boyer, Product Manager for ZeroWire & Security Devices at UTC Fire & Security says it is a booming market: “There are a lot of new entrants in the smart home segment, not only the traditional security providers, but also players such as Google home, and these companies usually come first with a solution for the smart home and bring the security afterwards.”
