Microsoft CSO assumes presidency of CSO Roundtable advisory board

Alexandria, Va

Microsoft Corporation Chief Security Officer Michael A. Howard will serve as the 2015 president of the CSO Roundtable Advisory Board. Howard succeeds Richard M. Kelly, CPP (Ingersoll Rand), who will serve as past president. The CSO Roundtable is a private forum for senior security executives who represent the largest and most influential organisations in the world. It was established as a public policy forum by ASIS International (ASIS), the leading organisation for security management professionals worldwide, in 2004 and developed into a membership organisation in 2008.

“As a student of leadership, I continually strive to improve my leadership acumen and the CSO Roundtable affords me the ongoing opportunity to learn leadership best practices from fellow CSOs,” stated Howard. “The CSO Roundtable brings a tangible value-add to my company by giving me another resource to help my team and me manage the myriad of security issues that challenge us daily. The dedicated security professionals who are CSO Roundtable members are the right players to tackle the challenges security practitioners around the world face now, and in the future.”

A dedicated member and volunteer leader, Howard joined ASIS in 2011 and the CSO Roundtable in 2012. Previously, he served on the ASIS Advisory Council on Public Policy (2013) and as vice president/president-elect of the CSO Roundtable Advisory Board (2014). In tandem with his one-year presidency in 2015, Howard will also serve on the ASIS Strategic Planning Committee.

Prior to joining Microsoft, Howard held several positions over the course of his 22-year tenure with the Central Intelligence Agency, finishing as Chief of Station, the agency’s highest field position. A frequent speaker at conferences and education events on security and leadership, Howard has been featured in various security industry publications. He holds a BS in criminal justice from San Jose State University.

In 2015, Michael Maloof, CPP (Oracle), will serve as vice president of the CSO Roundtable Advisory Board. Other board members include: Arturo Aceves (BP); Dan Consalvo, CPP (State Farm Insurance); Don Taussig, CPP (Land O’Lakes, Inc.); Frank Ewald, CPP (Deutsche Post DHL); Linda C. Harmon (Accenture); Paul Moxness (Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group); and Steven K. Braden, CPP (Capital One).
