Tyco manufacuring facility wins enviromental award in Mexico

The Tyco International de Mexico manufacturing facility has been recognised by the National Council of the Maquiladora and Export Manufacturing Industry of Mexico (INDEX) as a 2015 Environmental Award winner.

Originally established in 1983 as a civil nonprofit association, INDEX is a private organisation representing the interests of the export manufacturing industry and U.S. owned factories operating in Mexico, pillars of economic growth and job creation.

Tyco’s facility located in Matamoros, Tamaulipas Mexico, manufactures a range of anti-theft, security and fire protection products for retailers worldwide. The INDEX award recognises Tyco’s sustainable business performance indicators, which include reducing greenhouse gas emissions (CO2) and water consumption, producing less industrial waste, and energy efficiency. Constructed in 2009 using recycled building materials, Tyco’s eco-friendly site features solar roof panels which supply internal LED lighting for reduced power consumption, water efficient devices, and thermal reflective building coating. The 2015 INDEX award and other associated honors from the Tamaulipas government recognise Tyco’s commitment to the community and its leadership in manufacturing best practices in environmental sustainability.

Retailers worldwide are focused on providing shoppers with green facilities that are inviting, safe and secure. With this goal in mind, Tyco Retail Solutions is continually improving product design and manufacturing and supply chain practices to deliver environmentally responsible in-store systems backed by global processes that cut waste and promote sustainability.

Tyco has a companywide Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programme aimed at reducing hazardous waste, greenhouse gases, and water consumption globally;

“At Tyco we are committed to finding ways to save natural resources and reduce our overall environmental footprint, while delivering products that allow retailers to meet their own sustainability goals,” said Nancy Chisholm, President, Tyco Retail Solutions. “We are honoured to be recognised by INDEX for our efforts at our Tyco International de Mexico facility and will continue to incorporate environmental initiatives into our business practices across our organisation.”
