Mission 500 embarks on new project

Miami, Fl

Last year volunteers participated in a trailer home makeover that provided a safer and warmer space for a young Appalachian family.

Working closely with the security industry to serve the needs of children and communities in crisis, Mission 500 is all set for its third annual Appalachian Security Industry Service Trip. This year’s trip is scheduled for October 18 – 22, 2017 where volunteers will work with local stakeholders in Philippi, West Virginia to help families in need.

We are excited about the success of the Appalachian Service Trips and how it brings together the growing community of security industry professionals who care about helping others,” said Jeff Eichenlaub, Director of Strategic Partnerships for Mission 500. “More importantly though, together we are working to make a difference in the lives of low income families in Appalachia where 41.5% of residents fall below the poverty line.”

This year’s goal is to raise $10,000 in order to provide 65 families with fire safety equipment including smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, fire extinguishers and a safety training plan. Most families in this region don’t have access to or knowledge of the importance of these tools and every $150.00 donated will cover the cost of the fire safety equipment for one family. Volunteers will also be working to provide warm and safe housing for families in severe need.
