Panasonic launches Elite CCTV series

Bracknell, Berkshire (UK)

The latest specially selected premium range from Panasonic incorporates features that are designed to go far beyond simple surveillance, with the cameras all including smart coding compression and secure communication encryption. All the cameras in the range also offer a minimum resolution of full HD, with a selection at 4K.

In addition, vandal resistance, weatherproofing and the rain wash coating, unique to Panasonic, ensure the cameras can continue to acquire useful evidence even in challenging conditions.

Gerard Figols, European Product Marketing Manager, said, “The Elite range demonstrates the excellence of Panasonic security cameras. It’s a small selection of our wider camera portfolio. The beauty of the embedded technology is that it helps to reduce the overall cost of ownership. For instance, Panasonic’s True 4K technology has efficient compression software which means recordings are typically 1/7th of the usual size of a 4K recording. For end users, that means a high quality security system doesn’t necessarily need to involve higher storage costs.”

As well as 4K box, dome and 360 degree camera technology, the range includes Panasonic’s full HD weatherproof bullet camera (WV-SPW532L), which has the ability to automatically detect and optimise video quality within a given image, prioritising disk space for the areas where movement is detected, and overall helping to save network bandwidth and improving the cost effectiveness of the system for operators.

Meanwhile, Panasonic’s new Ipro Extreme camera platform builds on the efficiency already offered by H.265. With the addition of the company’s own smart coding technology, bandwidths can be decreased by up to 75 per cent, compared to H.264.

Dahua Technology launches ePoE IP system

Dahua Technology Co., Ltd. is launching a system of extended Power over Ethernet (ePoE) devices including cameras, network switches and network recorders. Dahua ePoE IP system supports up to 800 metres between the ePoE camera and the ePoE network switch or ePoE NVR with an embedded switch. It overcomes the limitations of traditional Ethernet and POE (both restrict cable distances to around 100 metres (328 feet) between network ports) and eliminates the need for Ethernet extension devices or additional network switches.

The future is here - when surveillance meets AI

What will the world be like when surveillance meets AI (Analytics Intelligence)?

According to an IHS report from September 2016, security camera shipments continue to grow at 14.1% CAGR and are predicted to reach 190 million units in 2020, despite revenue growth having slowed to 8.1% CAGR. There are just too many cameras and video footage to be digested by human operators. Most security video footage is erased or over-written without being watched. Video Analytics (VA) Technology was once perceived as a solution to automate the utilisation of abundant video footage resources. By means of identifying and tagging the appearance of certain patterns in a video, the VA or AI system could perform search and run statistics on it.
